Listen to Schimmerling

One of the most remarkable pieces on our last CD (Around Prague 1922-1936) is the 'Six Miniatures for Chamber Orchestra' written by a 22-year-old, completely forgotten Czech composer called Hans Aldo Schimmerling (1900-1967).  His music is delicate and distinct, and it slightly reminds one of his teacher Alexander von Zemlinsky, who was Arnold Schönberg's son-in-law. The manuscript of Schimmerling's piece is preserved in the Austrian 'National Bibliothek' in Vienna, but is has now been published in the Ebony Band Edition, which makes this great music accessible to future performers.

Please find further information on Schimmerling in the library of this site (under letter S).
